Chiang Rai province, the northern most province of Thailand is about 785 kilometres north from Bangkok. It covers an area of approximately 11,678 square kilometres with an average elevation of 580 metres above sealevel and has a population of 1.23 million people.
The province borders Myanmar on the North, and Laos on the north and northeast. It is also known as a gateway to Myanmar, Laos and China.
